With so much to see and do, it can be difficult to decide the best time to visit Lebanon. Though Lebanon has a moderate climate and is not quite as arid as other Middle Eastern countries, it helps to know beforehand what you can expect from the weather conditions during your time of visit.

So here, we’ll be highlighting the seasons in Lebanon and when they occur in the year. We’ll also take a look at the cultural events and festivals that take place throughout the year, so you can plan your trip around one of these exciting events if you’re looking to explore the culture deeply. So, whether you’re a beach-goer, a history buff, or a foodie, read on to learn more about when to visit Lebanon.

Times and seasons in Lebanon

In this post, we’ll take a closer look at the four different seasons in Lebanon, the temperature expectations, and what they have to offer, so you can decide when the perfect time for your visit is. From the mild weather and blooming wildflowers of spring to the hot and crowded beaches of summer to the colorful fall foliage and mild temperatures, we’ll cover it all.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is the perfect time to visit Lebanon, as the weather is nonirritating and the country is in full bloom. The wildflowers are out, and the landscapes are green and lush. The temperature this time is around 20-25°C.

Summer (June to August)

Pack (and I cannot stress this enough) your sunscreen, because the summers are hot, hot in Lebanon, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C. The good news is that it’s the perfect time to visit the beaches and enjoy the Mediterranean sea breeze. The bad news is… well, everyone thinks so, hence this is typically the high season for tourism, so be prepared for crowded beaches and tourist sites.

Fall (September to November)

Fall is another great time to visit Lebanon, as the weather is inviting and the crowds have thinned out. The leaves on the trees turn beautiful shades of orange and red, making for the perfect backdrop for hiking and sightseeing tours. The temperature is around 20-25°C around this time.

Winter (December to February)

Winter can be chilly in Lebanon, with temperatures dropping to around 10-15°C. But it’s also the perfect time to enjoy the country’s skiing resorts or to explore the historical sites of Beirut, Byblos, and Tripoli.

When deciding what time of the year you should visit Lebanon, it’s important to consider your personal preferences and what activities you want to do. If you want to enjoy the beaches and the sea, summer is the best option. If you prefer mild weather and fewer crowds, spring or fall are ideal. And if you want to ski, the winter is the perfect season.

Festivals, national holidays & events

In addition to Lebanon being one of the few Arab countries to experience four climate seasons, thus making it a go-to any time of the year, it’s also worth noting that Lebanon has a rich cultural calendar. With many festivals and events happening throughout the year, this can influence your travel period choice.

From the Beirut International Film Festival in the fall to the Byblos International Festival of Music in the summer, there’s always something happening in Lebanon. Check the events schedule before planning your trip, you might want to plan your trip around a specific event.

Other kinds of holidays and events celebrated in Lebanon are religious-inspired ones. Lebanon is a multi-faith country so major feasts for both Christians and Muslims are observed – as these are the two major religions. In other words, Christmas and Easter are celebrated, as well as Ramadan, Ras-as-Sana, Ashura, Milad An-Nabi, and Eid.

Other significant dates in Lebanon to note

Finally, there are a few significant cultural and political times observed all over the country by all religious groups. Some of these include;

Qana DayApril 18

At a UN facility in the village of Qana, a massacre occurred on April 18, 1996. In honor of the victims and to remember that day, Lebanon observes a day of national sorrow on April 18. Businesses and other public spaces are closed on this day, due to the fact that this is not a celebration.

Labour Day May 1

The first of May – Workers’ Day – is a celebrated holiday in Lebanon, as it is in the majority of the world. Shops are closed as part of the celebration, and there are parades and demonstrations by workers.

Independence DayNovember 22

November 22 is observed as the day Lebanon gained independence from France after a 23–year period of rule in 1943. On this day, military parades that resemble Spain’s Da de la Hispanidad are held during the day to celebrate.

These are just a few examples of the many festivals and events that take place in Lebanon throughout the year. Attending festivals and events is a fantastic way to experience the culture and to meet locals. With a plethora of festivals and events to choose from, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy.
